Sound familiar?

Where brands get stuck in Japan.

01
"We get a report every month, but we can't tell what's really working."
The numbers come from the platforms, not from your sales.
02
"Head office asks what the Japan budget produced, and the numbers don't add up."
Every channel claims the same customer.
03
"We lead our category abroad. In Japan, buyers don't even find us."
The rankings Japanese buyers read leave you out.
04
"Most sales happen on Amazon and Rakuten, but the ads are judged on our website."
Half the picture is missing from the report.

What buyers see

What Japanese customers see.

Pick a search Japanese customers make every day (〇〇 = your product):

"Best [product]" rankings (〇〇 おすすめ)
What we often find: Brands that lead abroad are missing from the Japanese rankings buyers read first. What we’d do: Get into the rankings buyers read, then bid on the category.
Software comparison (〇〇システム 比較)
What we often find: Software vendors missing from the comparison lists Japanese IT teams use to build a shortlist. What we’d do: Get listed and reviewed, then search on the category.
The brand’s official site (ブランド名 公式)
What we often find: Japanese homepages with English titles, ranking below resellers for the brand’s own name. What we’d do: A Japanese title and description.
"[Product] regret" (〇〇 後悔)
What we often find: Reviews led by "I almost regretted it" posts, with no answer from the brand. What we’d do: Answer the drawbacks on the brand’s own pages.
Where can I buy it? (〇〇 どこで買える)
What we often find: Shoppers asking where to buy are sent to blogs and travel guides, not to the brand. What we’d do: A Japanese where-to-buy page, with search ads pointing to it.

Questions

Common questions.

Something else? Write to contact@meridian.tokyo. We reply within one business day.

Do we have to leave our current agency?

No. You can keep it. The diagnostic and the independent monthly review work alongside your current agency.

Who owns the ad accounts and data?

You do. Accounts are opened in your company's name, with full admin access from day one.

What happens with the free outside review?

It's yours to keep, whatever you decide. We look at what Japanese customers see and, if you send it, your agency's latest report. Nothing is shared with anyone.

What budget does this make sense for?

Monthly management fits brands spending a few million yen a month or more. If you spend less, or aren't advertising in Japan yet, start with the free outside review. We'll then suggest one fixed-price project or monthly management, and explain why.

If we keep our agency, what do we pay you?

A fixed fee for the diagnostic, or a fixed monthly fee for the independent monthly review. You don't pay us a second percentage on top of your agency's.

What does the agency diagnostic deliver?

A clear view of your accounts, tracking and spend: what's working, what's wasted, and a prioritised plan your agency can carry out.

We sell through an importer and have no company in Japan. Can you help?

Yes. We work with your head office and your importer together. The importer keeps its channels, ad accounts are opened in your brand's name (or jointly, if you agree that with the importer), and we invoice your head office directly.

We manage Japan from head office abroad. Is that a fit?

Yes. Many brands in Japan are run from Korea, China, Southeast Asia, Europe or the Americas. We work directly with your head office team, and with your team in Japan if you have one.

How fast can we start?

Whenever you're ready. Have a date to work back from, like a launch, a big sale or a review with head office? Tell us, and we plan the work back from it.
